Hello! In this lesson, we will learn commonly used questions and answers that may be used while shopping.

When you enter the store a clerk may ask you one of many possible questions. For example,

“May I help you?” or
“Can I help you?” or
“Can I help you find something?” or
“Looking for anything special?” or

You might respond,

“No thanks, I’m just looking”. or
“Yes, I’m looking for . . . .”

The clerk might say,

“Have you been helped?” or
“Has anybody been helping you?”

You might respond

“Not yet. I’m looking for . . .” or
“Yes, I’ve been helped.”

The clerk may ask,

“How are you doing?”

And you could say,

“Fine, thanks” or
“I’m looking for . . .”

If the clerk asks,

“Are you doing okay?”

You could say

“Yes, fine, thanks.” or
“I‘m looking for . . .”

At the cash register, a clerk may ask you,

“Did you find everything?” or
“Did you find everything you were looking for?”

You could reply,

“Yes, I did, thanks.” or
“No ––I was looking for . .”

If the Clerk asks,

How are you today?

You could say,

Fine, thanks, and you?

When your items have been rung through, the clerk might ask you,

“Cash or charge?” or
“Cash or credit?” or
“Debit or credit?” or
“How would you like to pay today?” or

Here are some more examples of things they might ask you:

“Plastic or paper?”

“Carry–out?”
or
“Do you want carry–out?”

Do you want this in a separate bag?

Do you want to take this or should I bag it?

Receipt in the bag?


Do you want to donate to ___________.
or
Would you like to donate a dollar to _______?

You could reply:
Sure
or Not Today, thanks.
